Property description

This traditional semi-detached cottage dates back to the 1890s and has been beautifully refurbished to a modern standard, offering a characterful, yet efficient home in Whiting Bay on the Isle of Arran. Enjoying two bedrooms, two reception areas, a dining kitchen, and two bathrooms, the cottage offers an ideal home for young families, professionals, couples, and rental investors alike. Furthermore, the home benefits from an elevated position with views across to the Heads of Ayr and is set within approximately 1/3rd acre of lovely garden grounds, alongside a driveway.

A hallway welcomes you into the property and sets the tone for the interiors to follow with tasteful, neutral décor and warm wood flooring. On your left, you step into an east-facing living room enjoying lovely open views and morning sunshine. Here, space is provided for a choice of lounge furniture, all arranged around a warming wood-burning stove, and neutral décor is accompanied by handsome wood flooring and recessed shelving. The living room is adjoined by a fabulous triple-aspect sun room, filled with natural light throughout the day and offering a versatile second reception area with plenty of space for furniture and direct garden access. In the kitchen, space is provided for a dining area – perfect for sit-down family meals and entertaining with guests. The kitchen is well-appointed with a range of attractive, timeless wall and base cabinets, workspace, and splashback tiling, with integrated appliances comprising a double oven, an lpg hob, an extractor hood, and a fridge/freezer. A utility room (with external access) supplements the kitchen and houses additional cabinetry, workspace, and space for laundry appliances.

The home's two bedrooms are on the first floor, both continuing the attractive presentation of the preceding accommodation with neutral décor. The principal bedroom is supplemented by built-in storage and an en-suite bathroom comprising a bath with an overhead shower and a glazed screen, and a WC-suite, whilst the second bedroom is illuminated by dual-aspect windows and offers plenty of space for freestanding furniture. A separate shower room completes the accommodation on offer and features a shower enclosure, a WC-suite, and a towel radiator. Oil-fired central heating and double glazing ensure year-round comfort and efficiency.

Externally, the home is accompanied by a beautifully maintained front garden and a large patch of lawn with lovely open views, as well as a back garden which extends up the hillside, creating an ideal setting for a secluded terrace to further enjoy the home’s views as the sun sets in the evening. There is also a private front driveway which belongs to the property, however grants right of access to just two neighbouring properties.

Whiting Bay is located on the south east corner of the island and overlooks the Firth of Clyde, with views to the very southern point of Scotland. The village provides a newsagent, post office, pharmacy, two general food stores, café/bar, restaurant, bistro, hardware store and a farm shop. There is a craft outlet and art gallery, as well as a picturesque 18-hole golf course. Primary schooling is available in the village and secondary schooling is found at the High School in Lamlash. The surrounding area provides some of Arran’s most scenic walks, not only along the shoreline, but also through the forest to Glenashdale Falls.

The Isle of Arran, approximately 167 square miles in area, is sometimes referred to as “Scotland in miniature”, as it is divided into highland and lowland areas by the Highland Boundary Fault. The island is a popular destination for geologists, due to the substantial volcanic activity around 16 million years ago in the Tertiary period.

There are many stone circles and standing stones dating from Neolithic times, including those on Machrie Moor and the Giants Graves above Whiting Bay. Arran is approximately 60 miles in circumference and has some of the finest scenery in Scotland, with excellent walking, rambling and sea and trout fishing. Tourist attractions include Arran Aromatics, Arran Heritage Museum, Lochranza Distillery and Brodick Castle. There are seven golf courses on the island with ‘Seahaven Cottage’ ideally positioned for an easy access to Whiting Bay Golf Club.
